Contemporary Charcoal Artist
ABOUT Janis bär
I don’t draw what I see.
I draw what remains.
DRAWING WHAT REMAINS
—
Janis Bär is a contemporary charcoal artist creating emotional portrait drawings that explore memory, identity and humanity.
Her works explore emotional presence, memory and the quiet complexity of human experience.
Working primarily with charcoal and graphite, she creates portraits that focus on what often remains unspoken vulnerability, identity, silence and emotional tension.
Rather than documenting appearance, her drawings seek to capture emotional traces that stay beneath the surface.
Inspired by human encounters and personal stories, her work moves between realism and emotional interpretation.
Through charcoal, Janis Bär explores the emotions that shape human experience. Her portraits are not intended as exact representations but as reflections of memory, vulnerability and personal history.
Each drawing begins with observation, yet develops through intuition and emotional interpretation. She is interested in the traces people leave behind: expressions, silences and stories that often remain unseen.
Alongside her studio practice, Janis Bär regularly participates in digital and physical exhibitions. Her charcoal drawings have been featured in international online exhibitions, group shows and charitable art events, allowing her work to reach collectors, curators and art audiences from different countries. Recent exhibitions and exhibition projects can be found on the Exhibitions page.
Based in Palma de Mallorca, Janis Bär creates contemporary charcoal drawings for collectors, galleries and art lovers who connect with emotional portrait art. Her work focuses on humanity, identity and the subtle emotions that exist beneath the surface.
